Nathaniel Mary Quinn, a great and interesting artist, shares his childhood. He shares how he lived in an area in which contained poverty and gang violence. Life for him was difficult and would not get better surrounding this time. Because of this, he would begin drawing his feelings onto the walls of his apartment to briefly escape the difficulties of his life. After many years, the quality that his drawings held increased incredibly, which solidified his title as an abstract artist. One of his pieces known as “Mend”, is one example of his many, which captures aspects of his life.

This piece of art most noticeably features the neck and shoulders of a person, with what seems to be different images, combined to create the head. Through the connection of his childhood and overall difficult life, he takes what he has experienced and felt, and manages to put it onto a canvas. In the picture, the main head of the figure is made of different styles of drawings. Through the different styles, a connection can be made to one’s personality. A person is unique, completely different from another, no matter their appearance. What makes them truly unique is their personality. So many different traits can be attributed to a person to make them what they are. People tend to get “damaged” when going through their lives, losing a part of themselves. The title, “Mend” suggests that we must mend the pieces back together to remain complete.
