Two artists by the name of Agnes Martin and Hiroyuki Doi are people who on the surface appear successful and prolific in their fields. One would assume that their lives were cut out for them and they did not have any sort of hindrance to achieving their current position, but this simply is not true.

Beginning with Agnes Martin, her childhood to many, was not normal. Her mother who is supposed to love and care for Martin seemed to resent her. This roadblock in her life, especially in the beginning, should have prevented her from achieving the things that she would have. Not only did she become a high-graded swimmer, but she also created art that was both unique and beautiful.

Hiroyuki Doi had a much different story from that of Martins. Hiroyuki was not stricken with the roadblock until later in his life. While aspiring to become a chef, unfortunately, his younger brother passed away. Most people in Hiroyuki’s shoes would also be overcome with emotion, most likely not having the desire to do anything. The way that Hiroyuki expressed his sad and depressed emotions was through his new art style which included drawing circles so small, then when added together, can create beautiful images.

These two artists experienced some of the worst experiences that you can experience in life. Throughout all this, a pattern can be seen, in order to rise one must fall.
